Kebab Kingdom rules it all

OMR Food Street is a confluence of food joints serving a variety of delectables that can be categorized into three main groups. The regular starters, main course and dessert stand at the top, followed by vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, and the type of cuisines (Mexican, Italian, North Indian, etc.) at the far end. A one-stop-shop for all things food, if you will.
Kebab Kingdom is a small joint at OMR Food Street, Guduvanchery, serving an array of meaty, kebab-style treats to its customers. The meat treats are served in either in the plate or in the form of wraps with the additional onions, lemon and spicy chutney. What were we served? The chicken seekh kebab and the chicken Kashmiri kebab.
The chicken seekh kebab is essentially a long tubular piece of tender, chicken meat that is skewered in the grill to give it the kebab-style appearance and flavor. Well marinated to give it a zing, the seekh kebab is quite the dish to satisfy even the most indulgent meat-eater.
The Kashmiri kebab is more like any other dry chicken starter, with the exception of being coated with the goodness of Kashmiri spices and flavors. Marinated well to give it the color, the resulting kebab is succulent to the degree of melting in your mouth. The only part where Kebab Kingdom goes a little lackluster is in its plating process, which leaves more to be desired. However, that aspect should definitely get better over time.
Chef’s Expert Tip: Get your hands a little dirty with this kebab, as the toothpicks are not of much use. Coat every single bite of the kebab with the herb chutney and pick a few slices of onions to add that little crisp.
Head over to Kebab Kingdom at OMR Food Street, Guduvanchery to experience the mighty, meaty kebabs in all its glory.

OMR Food Street is the best street food in Chennai. And it is best drive-in cum drive-thru hub for foodies, with a speciality of serving up street food recipes from around India making it the best food joint in Chennai. Omr food street is the home of the best street food outlets in chennai.

Food chain.Strictly food.

The name says it all about, street full of food outlets. Was invited to be at their Thoraipakkam location, and it was their first food street. It is an approximate space of 20000 sq. ft. space filled with a groceries shop and remaining are all “Nalla kottikura” places. My favorite food outlets in the street include Brownie heaven, Milky Way, Frankie shop, Ajanabi. Then these two got added to my bucket list:
Bubble XO:
It’s a Bubble tea based kiosk outlet from Malaysia as I heard from him. Basically a beverage shop which has varieties of bubble teas including chillers, fruit tea, soda pop, smoothies, classics and Oreo blends. Their menu card indicates the calories for the drink they serve so health and gym freaks, do bookmark this place. I tried a smoothie based lychee drink. It’s made of thick blend of condensed milk, ice crystals, lychee flavor, and I added myself with berry popping Boba (Sugary flavored balls) and tapioca pearls (Sugary squares of Boba extracted from roots of maravalli kizhangu and processed). It was mixed in a mixer in correct proportion of each additive and sealed in a medium or large plastic cup. The flavored beverage was chill to have in this scorching summer, and the berry fruit balls just burst inside the tongue which adds more flavor to the lychee based drink. It costed about Rs. 140/- exclusive of taxes which is a mediocre one.
Mashawi:
They serve the best Ouzi in city. Ouzi is the Lebanese word for a dish of baked lamb or chicken and spiced rice. The basmati rice is cooked with a blend of sweet spices, including allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom in a way of dum biriyani style cooking. I tried the ¼ chicken varieties there. The chicken was even cooked perfect with their tangy and mild spiced marinated spices rubbed on it. The rice was even served with baked potato and egg. The potato was even rubbed with the spices. Coming to the taste, it is a very mild spiced one which made it a perfect one for your stomach to fill up. In a word it was the “Yummy”. It costed around Rs. 180/- which was great. Then comes to my fav dessert part baklava, it’s a made of rich sheets imported from turkey with filled with chopped nuts sweetened and held together.

It’s a Millet World, at Innsuvai

OMR Food Street is nothing but a confluence of multifarious cuisines at one single spot; albeit with many spots around Chennai. Here, one can witness and experience food in its many forms, catering to the likes of the individual and opening the doors to gustatory worlds that have never been explored before. One such world is ‘Innsuvai’, an organic, millet-based restaurant at OMR Food Street, Guduvanchery.
An alternative to rice, millets are considered to be highly fibrous, antioxidant rich and gluten-free, in addition to a bevy of other nutritional advantages. However, they are less known and consumed by the general population. “Millets had been the major staple food in central India, southern India and hilly regions of Uttarakhand for centuries till the time of the Green Revolution. After the advent of high-yielding varieties of rice and
wheat during the 1970s, millets got sidelined from our food basket,” says Vilas A. Tonapi, director of the Indian Institute of Millets Research in Hyderabad. Innsuvai makes up for this lack by incorporating millets into the regular South Indian food we consume; idlis, dosas, paniyarams and the like get infused with a dose of millet goodness. The food essentially becomes more nutritious without varying much in its taste or texture.
Food Ordered: Chilly Idly & Millet Paneer Dosai
Coated in a thick layer of gram flour and fried in oil, the diced idlis are then sautéed in a mixture of chilly masala, onions and herbs to form a dish that would seem very unlikely in its form and taste, to be called idlis. The centre of the diced and fried idlis are much harder than the regular ones, with the coating of gram flour altering its texture completely. Even though you may doubt whether you’re actually munching on idlis, the dish is a unique treat for sure.
The millet paneer dosai is much like any other stuffed dosa, the only difference being the addition of ground millets into the dosa batter. Served with sambar, coconut chutney and tomato/chilly chutney, the millet paneer dosai seems quite bland and uninteresting, in comparison to the chilli idli’s pronounced flavors, although quite filling just on its own.
Walking into Innsuvai, one is sure to notice the wallpaper showcasing the health benefits of incorporating millets into their diet and how it compares with other grains. Either ways, the restaurant is definitely one to look out for, considering the healthy food choices people are on the lookout for.
