Taste Trail at OMR Food Street, Navalur

Visited this place.Not much of ambience basically a small shop with like in a street style but decent with stools for sitting .About the food now,The first thing I had being a mumbaikar was one by the name the Mumbai classic Vadapav.

1. a) Classic Vadapav – Mumbai Special

the classic mumbai masala tasted awesome but was disappointed as the mitha chutney felt a bit tangy . the vada was cooked good with less oil . on the whole it was a good experience and now comes number 2.

b) Paneer Spicy Roll

the spicy paneer roll ,although the paneer was good it tasted bland .the roll was buttery and juicy though. Their pricing seems to be quite ok . Overall this place is worth snacking out with pocket friendly prices .

2.Madras Sandwich at the OMR Food Street, Navalur. Not much of ambience out there as it a small shop with a steel table chair for sitting with a view of OMR Food Street. The guy served the sandwich in a very joyful way and fast manner. In such a small place there were a lot of varieties of sandwich .The sandwich was prepared and served neatly. We ordered the Barbecued Sandwich. It tasted fresh juicy and grilled. The best part was the juiciness and the freshness of the sandwich. I would visit this place again to try other varieties also.

3. Chocolate Room on the OMR Food Street, Navalur. The seating place was open and had bean bags for sitting. Comfortable for youth .some people may find hard to sit though. The owner of the place is an amazing guy who will take care of the customers well. The service is also pretty fast. Now about the food and juices I had there . I had desserts at the Chocolate Room.

It is not one of that recipes that every chocolate room in Chennai has. Yes buddies it is the OMR chocolate room, Navalur special dessert that I had. It’s called the Eskimo which one available only in the Navalur OMR Food Street. It tasted awesome with the waffles. It’s a must try. The price variant is also very pocket friendly. Then second came the blue slush drink. It was amazing .minced flavoured ice drink. Truly a must visit place.

Scarlet’s Cafe De Burger

Chennai is home to umpteen burger joints that individuals can treat themselves to; McDonalds, Burger King, Cheesy Juicy Burgers and the like. Although each of them have their signature burger offerings, it doesn’t quite come close to the buns and patties that are offered at Scarlet’s Cafe De Burger located at OMR Food Street, Navalur and Perungudi.

Boasting a lip-smacking range of food, from soups, starters, vegetarian and chicken burgers all the way to beef burgers, lamb burgers, fish burgers, tuna burgers and pastas, Cafe De Burger is an absolute foodie heaven to anyone who visits the outlet. With a large, grunge-like wallpaper pasted on one side of the wall and interiors reminiscent of an American cafe or diner, the burger joint is certainly impressive from the get-go.

Ordering an American BBQ special burger, one that comes with an American barbecue seasoned chicken patty and topped with caramelized onions, it has a certain zing to it in terms of the barbeque sauce and pepper flavors. Utilizing a select few ingredients to make the burgers along with the not-too-large buns, Cafe De Burger nails the art of making fine, delectable burgers.

Chef’s Expert Tip: If your hunger pangs have got to the point of no return, just ask the attendant to recommend you a burger or so, based on your preferences, as going through the whole menu can take a while.

Food Trails of Food Street

1.Chukka Biryani from Pepphot Biryani.

What’s better than Biryani to start with? Biryani is something I would always crave for and I happened to try this Chukka Biryani which is one of it’s kind. Chukka is basically chicken or mutton meat which is diced into small cubes and roasted with a lot of masala and flavour and served as a semi gravy. This Chukka is served over perfectly cooked Biryani and that is Chill Biryani for you. The Chicken Biryani is was lot more spicier than the Mutton Biryani. And you can also pair this spicy dish with a dragon chicken to give the balance to your taste buds. This place has a casual ambience and you can visit them for some great Biryani.

2.Red Hot Jack Burger from Scarlet’s Cafe De Burgers

The Red Hot Jack Burger is a Vegetarian Burger which is overloaded with spiciness and cheese. The burger Patty was made with a blend of potatoes, green peas, capsicum and corn topped with red bell pepper and red chilly sauce. In Scarlet’s, they make their own in-house sauces and patties for their burgers. The burger was scrumptious and filling considering the quantity. Overall it’s a value for money burger at a very nominal price.

3.The Chocolate Fondue from

Who wouldn’t love to have a hot chocolate fondue this rainy season? This hot Choco fondue had a rich chocolate texture and tasted excellent. It wasn’t too dark and neither too milky. The taste was balanced and gives the perfect blend. They also serve them with waffles. Head on to The Chocolate Room to taste the best fondue I have tasted in a long time and share with us your rain and hot chocolate experience.

Meaty Treats at Date Palm

As a non-vegetarian, chances are close to nil that you haven’t tried a shawarma. That being said, there aren’t a lot of joints in the city that serve you a decent shawarma.Loaded with shredded meat in mayo sauce and topped with french fries, veggies and
pickles, one may think, “What can possibly go wrong with that?” A shawarma-holic would say, “A lot of things” or “Everything”. Cause it’s all in the meat and about the meat.

Date Palm serves a four diﬀerent varieties of shawarmas in two forms; the roll and the plate. You can go for the regular shawarmas, the Bahrain shawarma (seasoned with middle eastern spices), the spicy shawarma (seasoned with red chilies), or the Date Palm Special shawarma, which is a meat-only shawarma. The former three come in both the plate and roll forms, while the special shawarma is served on a plate.

The Date Palm shawarmas are quite good, in that the meat is cooked and topped just the right amount, making it a thoroughly delectable affair. Most other shawarma joints get the only few things needed entirely wrong, and ruining the whole experience. The spicy plate shawarmas we got were neatly divided into four portions and served with a generous amount of mayonnaise and salted veggie slices.

Next up on the order list was the al faham pepper chicken steak, which is an Arabian-inspired preparation that Indians better know as charcoal grilled chicken. Although it took quite a long time to prepare, the wait was worth it; succulent, well marinated boneless chicken pieces served with mint chutney and sliced onions. However, the name steak doesn’t quite fit the bill, when you are seated there, expecting something remotely akin to a steak, if not the whole slab of meat.

Chef’s Expert Tip: Once you’re done with your fill (or even before your meal), head over to Date Palm’s own Beverly Juice Village next door, for desserts; juices, milkshakes and fruit salads. Their signature would be the “Mega Glass” fresh fruit juices that can easily serve anywhere around 4-6 people… in one single sitting. Imagine that!
